Homeownership
In 2009, NeighborWorks® Rochester:
- Created 73 new first-time homebuyers; representing over $5 million being re-invested into our city neighborhoods
- Conducted 32 Pre-purchase classes and Post- purchase classes
- Issued 522 Certificates of Completion to participants of these homeownership classes
- Conducted 13 homebuyer orientations to a total audience of 293 participants; a 30% increase over 2008
- Conducted over 70 lead clearance tests and risk assessments
These numbers translate to city families having the knowledge to safely navigate the homebuying process without being vulnerable to predatory lenders. It means families had the capacity to make upgrades to porches, siding, front doors, windows, kitchens, bathrooms and more. It means families whose furnaces died or roofs were leaking were able to get them fixed quickly. And, most significantly, it means lead hazards were removed from many homes where small children live; thus creating a healthier living environment.
Healthy Blocks
- Developed Healthy Blocks projects in which neighborhood residents and community volunteers gave over 587 hours participating in activities that improved the physical conditions in their neighborhood.
- Re-invested over $99,081 in our three Healthy Blocks neighborhoods through home improvement loans to make general repairs and group purchases to install glass block windows and new driveways.
