Accomplishments

  • Since 2005, NeighborWorks® Rochester has taken 14 city residents to the national Community Leadership Institute, a 4 day, national conference hosted by NeighborWorks® America.
  • According to the NeighborWorks® America Community Building and Organizing Initiative, Annual Report 2007 ~ 2008. every $1 invested in Community Building & Organizing yields more than $36 in economic returns.
  • Healthy Blocks has resulted in $244,553.10 in neighborhood reinvestment since 2005. Using the above model, this has leveraged an economic impact of $8,803,911.60, or over $1.5 million a year.
  • Between 2005 and 2007, the average Healthy Blocks survey score of overall housing conditions in Swillburg increased or remained consistently higher than average.
  • During the time period 2005-2008, Swillburg home sales prices have continued to rise despite the challenging real estate market.
  • In the City’s 2008 tax assessment, Swillburg was one of only 5 city neighborhoods that saw home assessments increase by more than 10%.
  • Between 2005 and 2007, there was a 20% increase in residents responding ‘Agree’ or ‘Strongly Agree’ to the Healthy Blocks survey question “Neighbors are willing to make this a better place to live”.
  • Physical place-based branding has been implemented and improves the neighborhood image including street signs with the Swillburg logo on them and gateway signage, all of which promotes the neighborhood and distinguishes it as a distinct district with a strong sense of pride and resident engagement.
  • Swillburg membership has increased since 2005. In the first two years of Healthy Blocks in Swillburg, the three-street target area went from having almost no neighborhood association members to one street (Avon Place) having the highest percentage of households participating in the Swillburg Neighborhood Association.
