Healthy Blocks: Green Neighborhoods

Green Neighborhoods

The Green Neighborhoods project will run through December 2012 and feature giveaways, interactive presentations, speakers, and more. The goal of the Green Neighborhoods project is to reduce neighborhood greenhouse gas emissions by 325,000 pounds in 2012. As part of the Green Neighborhoods project, NeighborWorks® Rochester urges residents of city neighborhoods to make a change with ENERGY STAR®. Visitors can take the ENERGY STAR Pledge, which challenges people to take simple steps to save energy.

As part of Green Neighborhoods, residents in NeighborWorks® Rochester’s Healthy Blocks neighborhoods will be eligible for incentives and prizes, including free home energy-saving kits, just for signing the pledge. The two Healthy Blocks neighborhoods participating in the Green Neighborhoods project are the Pocket and Brooks Landing. Two residents, one in each neighborhood, will win a free, brand-new ENERGY STAR appliance of their choice (up to $350 value).

In 2011 NeighborWorks® Rochester helped over 200 city residents with energy audits and energy-saving home improvements totaling over $391,000 through the NYSERDA, EmPower and Green Jobs, Green New York programs.
